SuperkidsTry Motor City

One of the best kids events in the entire country. Don't believe us, come out and TRY. The kids will swim inside the swim area at Belle Isle Beach along a 100m roped, buoied course lined with Detroits finest life guards. We won't say this to loud but many of the kids run the swim course, we tell them it is much faster to swim it and that is what they should do, but that is why they TRY. After that they will get to ride 1 or 2 loops of the famous Detroit Grand Prix course at the islands southern tip. Finishing the 2nd discipline back at the fountain transition area where they will head out for a pretty cool run across two bridges before finishing in front of the Fountain with our exclusive SuperkidsTry play park awaiting them. It is not all about the Triathlon, it is about the experience after, creating lasting friendships and having more fun in a day than they could ever imagine. Everyone across the finish line gets a finishers medal.

TRANSITION AREA INFORMATION
- Parents, Kids PLEASE READ THIS if you do not understand please email us:

This is a 2 transition area event.  First time racing? that means you will have 2 spots to set up your race gear.

TRANSITION AREA 1 - this is the place you go to first when you are done with the swimming discipline.

TRANSITION AREA 2 - this is the place you go to when you are done with the biking discipline.

So typically most events have 1 transition area, this event has 2 because the beach is a mile away from the race finish/headquarters.

Transition area 2 directions: When you arrive Saturday morning to race, after proceeding to packet pickup/registration you will enter transition area 2 right behind packet pickup.  Look for your race number sequence on the bike racks and you will place anything you will wear during the RUN portion ONLY, and anything you want/need for AFTER the race.  Then proceed directly to Transition area 1.

Transition area 1 directions:  The beach, T-1 and start of the event is due North.  Just follow the signs, straight down the center of the island it is 1 mile from the finish line.  There will be arrows pointing the entire way, the Belle Isle beach and transition area 1 are located on the Detroit side of Belle Isle, not the Canada side.  Most people just walk, jog, or ride their bikes down.  Parents we do ask you to do your best to refrain from driving.  Once the kids race starts the inside of the island is LOCKED DOWN.  Meaning we will NOT allow you to be driving around to watch them.  This is for the kids safety.

TRANSITION AREA 1 - Kids this is for all your biking gear, anything you need for the bike portion will be put here, again look for your race number sequence on the rack.  Once set, get a nice idea where you are at in the transition area and then you may proceed down to the beach.  Which is next to the transition area.  Make sure you do not forget the bag provided to you, you want to make sure all your swim gear was placed in that bag and we will be bringing that over to T-2/finish area so you can get that when you are done with the event.

PARENTS:
Once we close the transition area you will NOT be allowed in the transition area, this is your kids event, not yours, please let them have fun on their own.  Our staff will be there for assistance.  You MAY NOT follow them around the course, you MAY NOT assist them in any way, and you MAY NOT pace them.  This is not only un-fair to other kids, this is not what this is all about.  The kids will be in a heavily monitored, closed course, those that have had their kids in our events know we do not compromise the kids safety.  Please do not use other events as a bench mark for your concern, we have hosted more kids events than anyone in the area and use that knowledge and expertise to make sure your kids are safe and having fun out there.

Swim: 100m - 6-10yrs. 200m - 11-14yrs. This swim will be inside the swim area at the Belle Isle beach.  It is a roped, 100m course.  The course is lined with city lifeguards and is in waste to chest deep water.  Last year was the coolest summer we have had in years and the temp was 67-68 degrees.  The previous 4 years it was low 70/s.  The 11-14yr. olds will not start until ALL the 6-10 yr. olds are off the bike course.  This is typically about 30-45 minutes or so after the start of their race. So make sure you have sweats, sweat shirt to stay warm as we wait for the start of the older kids event.

Bike
: 2.8 or 5.6 miles.  It is one loop for the 6-10 yr. olds, 2 loops for the 11-14yr. olds.  This is a closed, coned course taking you from the beach back around the fountain onto the Grand Prix course and finishing at T-2.  Just simply follow the cones around the course.  11-14yr. olds will make two loops of the course before finishing at T-2.  There will be course monitors along the course as well for your safety.

Run:
800m or 1 mi.  Again one or two loops around the casino and crossing the two foot bridges before a great finish just in front of the fountain and casino.
